Mutation Tools & Boosters

Several special items in Grow a Garden can help increase your chances of getting mutations:

Item Effect Duration Cost Availability
Mutation Fertilizer +50% mutation chance Single use per plant 250 coins Shop (Always available)
Mutation Potion +100% mutation chance Single use per plant 500 coins Shop (Limited stock, refreshes daily)
Chocolate Sprinkler Applies Choc mutation Permanent (affects 3x3 area) 1,000 coins Special Shop (Level 10+)

Note: Mutation boosters stack multiplicatively, not additively. For example, using both Mutation Fertilizer (+50%) and Mutation Potion (+100%) will result in a total boost of +200% (base chance × 1.5 × 2), not +150%.

Mutation Price Calculation

Understanding how mutation values are calculated can help you maximize your profits in Grow a Garden.

Price Formula

Total Price = (Mass/Base Mass)² × Base Price × Growth Mutation × (1 + ∑Mutations - Number of Mutations)

Components Explained:

  • Mass: The mass of your harvested fruit in kilograms
  • Base Mass: A constant specific to each crop type
  • Base Price: The minimum possible price for that crop
  • Growth Mutation: One of the following (only one can apply):
    • None (×1)
    • Gold (×20)
    • Rainbow (×50)
    • Ripe (×50, only for certain fruits)
  • ∑Mutations: Sum of all applicable environmental mutation bonuses
  • Number of Mutations: Count of unique environmental mutations applied

Restrictions:

  • Only one of either Gold, Rainbow, or Ripe can be applied
  • Only one of either Chilled, Wet, or Frozen can be applied

Example Calculation:

For a Rainbow Sugar Apple (50x) with Celestial (120x), Voidtouched (135x), and Shocked (100x) mutations:

  • Growth Mutation: Rainbow = 50x
  • ∑Mutations: 120 + 135 + 100 = 355
  • Number of Mutations: 3
  • Environmental Multiplier: (1 + 355 - 3) = 353
  • Total Multiplier: 50 × 353 = 17,650x base value!

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dawnbound mutation has the highest individual multiplier at 150x, but it can only be applied to Sunflowers. For most crops, the most valuable mutation is Voidtouched at 135x, followed by Celestial at 120x. However, the highest possible value comes from stacking multiple high-tier mutations with a Rainbow base mutation.

No, Gold, Rainbow, and Ripe mutations are all considered "growth mutations" and cannot be stacked with each other. You can only have one of these three mutations on a plant at a time. However, you can stack any of these with environmental mutations like Wet, Chilled, Celestial, etc.

The Ripe mutation is only available on certain fruits, most notably the Sugar Apple. It occurs randomly during growth with no specific trigger item or condition. It provides a 50x multiplier similar to Rainbow mutation but with a different visual effect. The Ripe mutation is particularly valuable for Sugar Apples due to their already high base value.

Both are high-tier cosmic-themed mutations, but they have different triggers and appearances. Celestial mutation (120x) occurs during Meteor Shower weather and gives plants star patterns. Voidtouched mutation (135x) occurs during the admin-only Black Hole weather and gives plants a dark void appearance with cosmic elements. They can be stacked together for even greater value.

There is no official release date for the unreleased mutations (Crystallized, Ethereal, and Quantum). These mutations have been found in the game files but are not yet implemented. They will likely be added in future updates, possibly tied to special events or new game mechanics. Keep an eye on official Grow a Garden announcements for more information.
